Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus will be among the bicyclists Saturday for the second annual SkyRide across the Skyway, which will take over the busy roadway Saturday morning.
The fundraising bicycle tour of historic locations and new bike infrastructure is organized by GObike Buffalo, a nonprofit organization that advocates for environmentally sustainable and bicycle-friendly transportation options in the city. Sponsors include the Buffalo Bills, Independent Health and M&T Bank.
More than 800 bicyclists participated in the inaugural event last year.
The Skyway will be closed to motor vehicle traffic for four hours so that registered riders can twice pedal up to its 110-foot summit and glide down. The 19-mile ride starts at 9 a.m. at the old pier site, 325 Fuhrmann Blvd., where it also ends.
Afterward, Flying Bison Brewery is hosting a celebration for bicyclists, their friends and relatives at 840 Seneca St. That event begins at 1 p.m.
May is National Bike Month and is celebrated locally as Buffalo Bike Month. To learn more about the SkyRide or to see a map of the route, visit skyridebuffalo.org.
