Amherst Supervisor Barry A. Weinstein won’t give up on getting a piece of the hotel bed tax.
Weinstein has requested a special meeting on Tuesday for the Amherst Town Board to consider a resolution that asks the State Legislature to allow the town to impose a 1 percent tax on all hotel bills.
Amherst, of course, would keep that revenue.
Weinstein last week wanted to ask the State Legislature to bump up the Erie County bed tax by 1 percent, revenue that would be shared among the municipalities. The supervisor, however, didn’t garner enough support from his colleagues on the Town Board, so it looks like he will try again and take a slightly different approach.
We’ll see how he fairs this time.
The meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday in the Council Chambers of the Amherst Municipal Building, 5583 Main St., Williamsville.
