AJ Schmidt Elementary School, which is part of the Lake Shore Central School District, has announced a partnership between the Christian Laettner Basketball Academy and the AJ Schmidt Boys Basketball Club.
The inaugural AJ Schmidt Boys Basketball Club is sponsored by Angola’s own Olympic Gold Medal Winner Laettner, an Angola native who helped Duke win back-to-back NCAA titles in the early 1990s.
The Christian Laettner Basketball Academy has donated four brand new basketballs to get the program started. Additionally, Laettner contributed CLBA T-shirts to the boys.
The basketball club is open to all fifth grade boys at AJ Schmidt. The morning practice sessions include running, conditioning, passing and dribbling drills, instruction and scrimmaging. The practice will end with water and a healthy snack. The club promotes fitness, teamwork and sportsmanship and makes a home-to-school connection through the use of entrance tickets. These tickets gain admittance to each session and are signed by both parent and homeroom teacher under the condition that the student has shown good character traits.
The Christian Laettner Summer Basketball Camp is coming to Buffalo and will be held from July 13 to 15. Basketball players interested in attending the camp should call 926-2721 for a registration form or visit www.theclba.com for more information.
