Eden couple seeks to convert former restaurant into home

A couple hopes to convert a former restaurant into a house on North Main Street in the Town of Eden.

The Town Board tabled a proposal Wednesday night from Thomas and Jennifer Ford for a special-use permit to remodel and live in the building at 8159 N. Main St.

Formerly Mama Mia’s Pasta House, the commercial-zoned property used to be zoned residential.

The Fords want to buy the property and return the structure to residential use.

Before the Town Board can consider the proposal, the town Planning Board and Erie County Planning Board will review it, a process that could take a few months.

Supervisor Glenn R. Nellis expects the planning boards to find no problems with the request.

“My guess is they will not,” he said.

In another matter, the board allowed Active Citizens for Eden Seniors to drive senior citizens to the group’s monthly gatherings in a town-owned van.

Board members approved the request on the condition that the insurance policy provides coverage.

Officials plan to contact the insurance company to make sure the policy covers that type of use.

The board also tabled the sealing of parking lots at Town Hall and the Eden Library because the bids’ details were unavailable.

Board members expect to see specifics from the Highway Department at the next meeting June 10.

Board members also approved the appointment of Michael and Matthew Benedict to maintenance positions in the Recreation Department. They will replace departed workers.
