Traffic signals to be upgraded along Niagara Street

A $182,000 grant from the Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition (NITTEC) will allow the City of Buffalo to move ahead with a plan to upgrade traffic signals on Niagara Street from downtown to the Riverside area.

The installation of 26 coordinated traffic signal controllers between Niagara Square and Ontario Street will improve traffic flow and bus travel times, Mayor Byron W. Brown said Wednesday.

The project is part of a $16.3 million effort to enhance Niagara Street as a gateway to the downtown business district. Work currently is underway on the first phase, a gateway entrance to downtown from Carolina Street.
