Teeing it up for May 27

PGA Tour

Event: AT&T Byron Nelson at TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas in Irving, Texas, Thursday through Sunday.

TV: Thursday and Friday, 4-7 p.m. on the Golf Channel; Saturday and Sunday, 1-2:30 on the Golf Channel and 3-6 p.m. on CBS.

Last year: Brendon Todd claimed his first victory on the PGA Tour in his 77th event, closing with a bogey-free, 4-under-par 66 to finish two strokes ahead of Canada’s Mike Weir, who shot 67. Todd, who became the fifth golfer from the University of Georgia to win on the circuit in 2014, took the lead with birdies on the ninth and 10th holes. He stayed ahead when he made a remarkable par 3 on the 13th hole, where his tee shot landed next to a tree, forcing him to chip left-handed. Todd’s second shot with a 4-iron turned backward stopped 7 feet from the hole, and he made the putt. He later sank a 14-footer for par on the 17th hole to protect his two-shot lead and make his victory walk down the 18th a lot easier.

Champions Tour

Event: Principal Charity Classic at Wakonda Club in Des Moines, Iowa, June 5-7.

TV: Friday, June 6, 4-6 p.m.; Saturday, June 6, 4-6:30 p.m.; and Sunday, June 7, 4-6 p.m.; on the Golf Channel each day.

Last year: Tom Pernice Jr. holed an 8-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole to beat Doug Garwood and win for the third time on the Champions Tour after claiming two victories in his career on the PGA Tour. Pernice, who added a victory in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship later in the season, shot 3-under-par 69 in the final round to match Garwood. On the 17th hole, Pernice chipped in from about 30 feet for a birdie to briefly take the lead before Garwood matched him by sinking a 10-foot birdie putt that eventually led to the playoff after both players also birdied No. 18.

LPGA Tour

Event: ShopRite LPGA Classic on the Bay Course at Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club in Galloway, N.J., Friday through Sunday.

Last year: Stacy Lewis collected her 10th victory on the LPGA Tour by closing with a 4-under-par 67 to win by six strokes over Christina Kim, winning the tournament for the second time in three years. After opening with a 67, Lewis took the lead for good with a bogey-free 63 in the second round that included four birdies on each nine, coming home in 4-under 30. Lewis, who also won the ShopRite in 2012 by four shots over Katherine Hull of Australia, took the No. 1 spot in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings with the 2014 victory, unseating Inbee Park of South Korea, who was on top for the previous 69 weeks.
