May 26, 1980: Cows on the loose on the East Side

Thirty-five years ago, there was still enough of a meat packing industry that police at the Fillmore District station of the Buffalo Police Department had to be ready for calls of cows on the loose.

For the second time in a week, multiple cows escaped from a holding pen at the P. Brennan packing company on Clinton Street.

Around 1:30 a.m., two 2,000-pound cows were wandering Clinton Street not too far from Fillmore. Two veteran Buffalo cops lead the posse to corral the beasts.
