Cows evacuated as smoke from tire fire infiltrates Perry barn

PERRY – Five hundred cows were evacuated from a Wyoming County barn as smoke from a nearby tire fire wafted through the structure, the county’s Office of Emergency Services reported Tuesday.

The tire fire was reported shortly before midnight Monday at True Farms, a dairy farm at 3086 Route 246 in the Town of Perry. According to Perry Fire Chief Steve Laraby, the fire was accidental and caused an estimated $5,000 damage.

One firefighter suffered a hand injury but was able to remain on duty. Firefighters from Perry Center, Castile, Silver Springs, Gainesville and Cuylerville also responded to the alarm.
