LOCKPORT – An autopsy was conducted Friday in Erie County Medical Center on a significantly decomposed body found off Market Street in Lockport, but the results aren’t known yet, Police Chief Lawrence M. Eggert said Friday.
Police indicated in their initial report that they knew who the dead man was, but Eggert said Friday the name wouldn’t be released until they are 100 percent certain. He said the condition of the remains meant dental records would have to be checked, and police are looking through their missing persons files, too. The state of the body also meant there was no obvious cause of death, Eggert said.
The body was found Thursday afternoon by city workers sent to repair a sewer drain behind the now-closed Widewaters Drive-In Restaurant.
