The driver who caused a four-vehicle collision on Route 20 in Hamburg last month pleaded guilty Friday to first-degree vehicular assault.
Carthy Johnson, 21, of Lakeview crossed the center line in his SUV while driving near Amsdell Road on the night of April 8 and hit three vehicles, causing damage to one, smashing the second nearly head-on and causing serious injury to the driver of the third vehicle. According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, the injured woman suffered a broken leg and wrists, plus two spinal fractures and a dislocated shoulder.
Johnson, who reportedly admitted at the scene that he had been drinking and had a blood alcohol content of 0.23 percent, faces a maximum sentence of seven years incarceration for the conviction. Sentencing is scheduled before State Supreme Court Justice Penny M. Wolfgang on Sept. 28.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Robin J. Deubler.
