Canisius is still alive in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference baseball playoffs after two wins on Friday – one of which came down to the last game.
Canisius beat top-seeded Rider, 8-7, in Friday afternoon’s game. Rider had scored one run in the bottom of the ninth, and had the tying run on second and the winning run on first with one out. However, Iannick Remillard got Patrick Murphy to ground into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game. Brett Siddall had a big game for Canisius, going 3 for 5 and driving in five runs.
There was no drama in the nightcap, as the Griffs pounded Quinnipiac, 12-2. Connor Panas drove in four runs.
Canisius advanced to the championship round with its second win. The Griffins will play Siena at noon Saturday in Fishkill. If Canisius wins that game, the teams will play again for the title and NCAA bid at 3:30 p.m.
