Jazmin Dunham of Buffalo State qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash of the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships on Friday. She had the seventh-fastest qualifying time at 12.25 seconds. The event is taking place in Canton, N.Y.
Sasa Vann of the Bengals finished 10th in the 400-meter dash in the women’s championships in Canton. She set a school record with a time of 56.55, and just missed qualifying for the finals. Vann and Dunham will team with Jazlyn Porter and Niasha Houpe in the finals of the 4x400-meter relay late Saturday afternoon.
On the men’s side in Canton, Austin Becker finished 10th in the 800-meter run. He finished with a time of 1 minute, 51.65 seconds, and missed qualifying for the Saturday final by .15 of a second.
Earlier on Friday, Becker was named the Division III Atlantic Region Male Track Athletic of the year. The honor came from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Becker set a Buffalo State school record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.74 at the Allegheny Gator invitational. He’s the SUNYAC champion at the distance and finished 12th in the indoor 800-meter run earlier this year.
