In 1955, there were no Buffalo Bills. The AAFC Bills had folded with that league six years earlier, and the AFL Bills were five years away. The Bisons still called Offermann Stadium home. All that meant that 60 years ago, the biggest thrills at the Rockpile came on four tires: Midget car races.
Midget cars are the roll cage equipped little racers that could reach speeds of well over 100 miles per hour, making a thrilling exhibition for sports fans. These races were among the top draws at War Memorial (then Civic) Stadium through the 1950s, along with Canisius College football games.
