The University at Buffalo women's basketball team won't be saying goodbye to leading scorer Kristen Sharkey. She's staying on as an assistant coach, the university announced Wednesday.
Sharkey led the Bulls with a 14.2 points per game scoring average last season. She joined the staff of coach Felisha Legette-Jack, along with Hayley Weagant, who spent the past two years as a graduate assistant coach at Division III Penn State Behrend. Weagant will be director of basketball operations.
Sharkey ended her playing career with six top-10 rankings on UB's all-time statistical lists. She graduated with a psychology degree in 2014.
"Kristen is one of the finest minds in the game at her age," Legette-Jack said. "I love her ability to know the post and coach it up. She brings innovative and creative ideas and wants to grow her Alma Mata. It's great to see your players earn the right to work with you and for this great institution. We know that she loves Buffalo and will do great things here."
