The New York Power Authority’s board of directors approved a contract with about 560 workers represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, including about 215 at the Niagara Power Project in Lewiston.
The deal is retroactive to April 2011, when the previous contract expired, and runs through March 31, 2019. The contract includes wage increases for each year starting in 2014, and requires the union members to increase their contributions to the cost of their health insurance.
The wage increases are 3.5 percent in 2014, 2 percent in 2015 and 2016 and 2.5 percent in 2017 and 2018. IBEW members who have been working at NYPA since the expiration of the previous contract will receive a $4,000 lump-sum payment; others will receive a pro-rated payment.
