For the second time in about two weeks another Buffalo area Catholic church was vandalized, diocese officials said Tuesday.
Someone or a group of burglars broke into All Saints Church at Esser Avenue and Henrietta Avenue in the city’s Riverside section sometime between 1 p.m. Monday and about 9 a.m. Tuesday and tried unsuccessfully to steal its heavy Tabernacle, according to diocese spokesman Kevin Keenan.
The vandal or vandals broke into the church through a window and went to the Altar and took down the Tabernacle but found it was so heavy they left it on the altar floor, scattering Communion hosts all over the Altar, Keenan said.
The burglar or burglars stole keys to the Tabernacle and to the church parking lot. Buffalo police are investigating.
About two weeks ago the Tabernacle at 14 Holy Helpers Catholic Church in West Seneca was stolen and still has not been recovered, Keenan said.
Buffalo police said anyone with information about either church burglary should call the Buffalo Police confidential tip number at 847-2255.
