Wage increase will lead to layoffs, higher prices
Let’s address Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s latest attempt to try to deceive us middle-class people to attain our vote by pushing for a minimum wage of $15 an hour.
I can understand people welcoming his gesture and looking forward to more money in their pockets. But as all of our mothers taught us, “There’s always a catch.” If minimum wage goes up to $15 an hour, businesses will have to raise their prices for goods and services. A business that is barely surviving will not be able to afford to keep all of its employees with this raise, causing unemployment to go up, and will have to raise prices to offset the wages of employees it keeps.
The only winners here are the state and federal governments, which will get more money from taxes that will come from the increased pay.
Bottom line: If minimum wage goes up to $15 an hour, don’t be shocked when you’re paying $25 for a pizza or $12 for a burger.
