NOCHAJSKI - Susan M., Ph.d., Otr/L, Faota Director of the Occupational Therapy Program at the University at Buffalo (UB) for the past 15 years. Passed away suddenly March 5, 2015. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, May 22 at 1 PM at Queen of Martyrs Church, 180 George Urban Blvd., Cheektowaga. Prior to joining the faculty, she was a clinician at the New York State West Seneca Developmental Center. Dr. Nochajski began her work at UB in 1988, initially coordinating an interprofessional training program sponsored by the (then-named) New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. She was on the Editorial Board for the American Journal of Occupational Therapy and Occupational Therapy in Healthcare and was a Grant Reviewer for the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Nochajski was an investigator, with more than 10 grants totaling more than $5.5 million, a prolific author and a frequently-invited speaker. In recognition of her exemplary contributions to the field, she was named to AOTA's Roster of Fellows in 2014. She was universally respected by faculty and students for her fairness, commitment and steady guidance of the program. Over her 26-year tenure, she educated more than 1300 occupational therapists. Outside of her professional life, Susan enjoyed travel with her beloved husband, Tom Nochajski, Ph.D., including cross-country road trips and visiting more than 20 countries. She also enjoyed taking pictures on vacation, reading novels, sipping wine, spending time with her family and attending Bruce Springsteen concerts. Although her feet were relatively small in size, her passing has left large shoes to fill. Arrangements by the BUSZKA FUNERAL HOME INC.
