The teams featuring Jack Eichel and Tyler Ennis are still alive at the world championships.
Eichel and the United States advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 win over Switzerland on Thursday. Eichel, expected to be drafted second overall by the Sabres in June, was not a factor after entering the game as one of the Americans’ hottest players. The center had no points or shots in 14:50 of ice time.
Ennis and Team Canada easily knocked out Belarus, 9-0, in their quarterfinal Thursday. Ennis had a goal and was plus-3 in 11:39. Tyler Seguin had a hat trick for the Canadians.
The United States will play Saturday against Thursday’s winner of Sweden-Russia. Washington’s Alex Ovechkin, whose team was eliminated from the NHL playoffs Wednesday, will join Russia if it advances. Canada will play Saturday against Thursday’s winner of Finland and the host team, Czech Republic.
The gold- and bronze-medal games are Sunday.
