Agents for the SPCA serving Erie County took 27 dogs, many of them large breeds, from what spokespeople for the organization described as a badly soiled home on Delaware Road near Zimmerman Road in the Town of Tonawanda early Thursday afternoon.

With the SPCA expecting to file animal cruelty charges against the listed owner of the home, which was condemned by both Town of Tonawanda officials and the Erie County Health Department, the live dogs were taken to the SPCA’s Tonawanda shelter for medical checks and evaluations. Three dead puppies and three dead cats were also reportedly found in the house.
