A new principal and instruction director, an athletic director and a community relations coordinator have been approved in the North Collins Central School District.
On Tuesday night, School Board members ratified the 2015-16 contract for Erich Ploetz, who will become the junior-senior high school’s principal and the district’s instruction director July 1. He was appointed April 21.
Annie Metcalf plans to retire as principal Sept. 3 after 10 years in the position.
Kathryn Shelley was named athletic director for the 2015-16 school year, and Janet Hutchinson was hired as a part-time temporary community relations coordinator.
Hutchinson will succeed Teresa Gier, who resigned from the community relations post and as a part-time clerk-typist.
Gier originally planned to resign only from the clerk-typist position, said Superintendent Joan Thomas.
She tried working from home as the community relations coordinator but realized that updating the website daily requires being in the school every day.
Officials will continue discussing the position’s future. “My recommendation is, let’s keep the dialogue going,” Thomas said.
In the meantime, plans are for Hutchinson to work until the end of June.
Ploetz, an assistant principal at Williamsville South High School, previously served as an assistant principal at Frontier Middle School and a biology teacher and counselor in the Cattaraugus-Little Valley Central School District.
As the district’s instruction director, he will oversee instruction for kindergarten through 12th grade.
The board also conducted the annual budget hearing, which generated no questions from residents.
