A Buffalo man who prosecutors said repeatedly raped and sodomized a girl over a two-year period starting when she was 9 years old was convicted Wednesday by an Erie County Court jury.
Michael Kabiona, 44, of Breckenridge Street, was found guilty of first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, according to District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III.
The sexual attacks started in 2011 and continued until 2013 when the victim told an after-school aide about the abuse, Sedita said.
During the weeklong trial, the girl testified about the attacks, which caused chronic injuries to her genitalia, Sedita said. Her testimony was corroborated by circumstantial and medical evidence.
Kabiona faces up to 25 years in prison when Judge Michael L. D’Amico sentences him June 15.
Assistant District Attorney Lynette Reda and Ryan Haggerty, of the DA’s Special Victims Bureau, prosecuted the case.
