Members of the Bhutanese Nepali community in Buffalo are hosting a fundraising event to assist victims of the recent earthquakes in Nepal from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Campbell Student Union social hall, at SUNY Buffalo State, 1300 Elmwood Ave.
Presenters and guests will share in a prayer and candlelight vigil for the victims, chanting a mantra for peace, meditation, a presentation on our local Bhutanese Nepali community and traditional music, dance and food.
All are welcome. Suggested donation is $10; checks can be made out to the International Institute of Buffalo.
The death toll from the quakes is more than 8,000, with nearly 18,000 injured and hundreds still missing.
Nepal’s National Emergency Operations Center also estimates that nearly 300,000 homes were destroyed and close to 270,000 were damaged.
