A 58-year-old Lewiston man who lost control of his pick-up truck early Friday is in critical condition after hitting a tree on Mount Hope Road in the Town of Lewiston, said Trooper Victor Morales of the State Police.
Jeffrey R. Mt. Pleasant was traveling west on Mount Hope around 1:10 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve, said Morales. The vehicle veered off the right side of the road, where it struck a mailbox.
“He tried to get back on the road and apparently overcorrected and went off the southbound side and struck a tree,” said Morales. “He was partially ejected, and the vehicle became totally engulfed in flames.”
Mt. Pleasant was transported to ECMC.
He was charged with speed not reasonable and prudent, moving from lane unsafely, aggravated unlicensed operation and driving while intoxicated. He is scheduled to appear in the Lewiston Town Court on June 30.
The accident remains under investigation, Morales said.
Firefighters from Lewiston No. 2 Fire Company responded to the scene.
