If corporations are people then punish them as such
Like many people, I disagree with the Supreme Court decision to treat a corporation as a person. Suppose a judge were to sentence a corporation to a penalty similar to a sentence that an individual might receive for a crime such as fraud or money laundering. During the sentence, the business would be forbidden to manufacture, receive or ship goods, or provide any services.
Execution of the sentence, if stayed pending appeal, would likely reach the Supreme Court if it were rendered against a sizable corporation. The Supreme Court might reconsider whether a corporation should be considered a person – and set a precedent that would be devastating to the employees, the stockholders, creditors and perhaps to critical customers and suppliers. The company might not survive.
