Mary E. Murcin, longtime farmer who loved dogs

Dec. 28, 1925 – May 3, 2015

Mary E. Murcin, a lifelong farmer, died Sunday in Absolut Care of Aurora Park, East Aurora. She was 89.

A native of West Seneca, Ms. Murcin was the oldest of nine children. When her mother died, she left school to care for her brothers and sisters, remaining on the family farm in Ebenezer her entire life.

On the farm, she grew fruits and vegetables, selling them from a roadside stand. She also raised beef and dairy cows and chickens.

Nieces and nephews recalled “going to Mary’s” to collect the eggs from the chicken coop and eat homegrown fruits and vegetables.

Dogs were important companions in her life and, over the years, she had many dogs, family members said.

For the past 15 years, Ms. Murcin lived in several area nursing homes.

Survivors include two brothers, Robert and Kenneth, and a sister, Betty Mitchell.

Services are private.
