A newly refurbished gym in the Hamburg Community Center will be dedicated Saturday to the late Donny Thiry for his years of service to sports and recreation in the town.
Thiry, who lived with neurofibromatosis, was a sports enthusiast who managed many Frontier Central School District teams and served as scorekeeper for a number of town recreation leagues. He also assisted in guest services for the Buffalo Bills. The Thiry foundation was created in his name to assist individuals with disabilities to participate in recreational activities.”
”The Donny Thiry Foundation has been giving so much to our department and the adaptive programs over the years,” said Joseph Wenzel, deputy director of the Department of Youth, Recreation and Senior Services.
The Town of Hamburg is also holding an Adaptive/Recreation Health Expo following the dedication. The event will showcase the town’s spring and summer recreation programs and sites as well as what is available for those with mental and physical challenges.
The dedication takes place at 10 a.m. followed by the expo which runs until 3 p.m. The community center is located at 4540 Southwestern Blvd.
