FORT ERIE, Ont. – A long-distance Canadian truck driver was rescued by Fort Erie firefighters after the hatch on the holding tank of his rig snapped shut on him after he went into the tank to check on an object. Fort Erie Fire Chief Larry Coplan said the rescue of the trucker at the Flying J. Truck Stop on Pettit Road about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday was something his crews had never experienced before. “The crew just went in and lowered a ladder and it was over within a few minutes and no big deal,” Coplan said.
