State approves sale of St. Francis of Williamsville nursing home

The state Health Department has approved the sale of the St. Francis of Williamsville nursing home from Catholic Health System to Comprehensive Healthcare Management Services.

The Long Island-based company agreed in January 2014 to buy the 142-bed skilled nursing facility on Reist Street and two adult homes from Catholic Health System.

Comprehensive had been expected to take over ownership of the nursing home from Catholic Health in mid-March, but paperwork issues held up the transfer. The Health Department gave its approval last Wednesday and the parties completed the sale late Tuesday.

Comprehensive has agreed to preserve 102 jobs at the nursing home and to start negotiating a new contract with 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, the union representing the workers, once it takes control of the facility.

The Health Department approved the name Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Williamsville for the nursing home, but the new owner plans to seek permission to change the name.

The sale of the two adult homes — 117-bed St. Elizabeth’s Home of Lancaster and 40-bed St. Vincent’s Home of Dunkirk — from Catholic Health to Comprehensive is pending.
