Car driver and five children slightly injured on school bus in heavy fog

A car driver and five children on a school bus suffered minor injures in an accident in heavy fog Tuesday morning at Broadway and County Lane Road in the Town of Alden, according to the State Police.

The school bus driven by Laura Ellicott, 54, of Alden was carrying 14 students northbound on County Line Road. Ellcott stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with Broadway and did not see any other vehicles in the hevy fog, so she proceeded into the intersection, police said.

However, Charleen J. Capwell, 52, of East Bethany, driving her car west on Broadway, was unable to stop when she saw the school bus and struck the bus, damaging both vehicles.

Capwell complained of pain in her neck and back and was taken to the Erie County Medical Center where she was treated and discharged.

Five students on the bus complained of pains and were evaluated at the scene. A 14-year-old girl was taken to Women and Children’s Hospital to have head pain checked and she was treated there and discharged, state police said. No charges were filed against either driver.
