May 4, 1940: LL Berger's ad makes fur joke

In Buffalo and around the country, fur storage was a big, competitive industry.

Seventy-five years ago today, as our city warmed up for spring, LL Berger’s used ad space to remind ladies to put their furs into storage to avoid heat and moth damage, not to mention their taking up a sizable amount of space.

The ad tries for levity and features a seal making a call to store its fur. Given the changing attitudes toward fur, it’s likely such an ad would spark more protest than bring in business these days.
