Hoerner avenue family staying with relatives after fire

A family safely escaped from a fire at their 2-1/2 story home on Hoerner Avenue in Cheektowaga Monday evening, said Susan Bull, assistant chief of the Walden Fire District Rescue Hose Co.

Heavy smoke was seen coming out of the house as firefighters from a number of companies arrived at about 6:15 p.m.

Assistant Chief Bull said she was grateful there were no injuries to the family or firefighters.

Crews from the Pine Hill, Sloan, Cleveland Hill and Forks fire companies assisted at the scene. The Red Cross was expected to provide the family with temporary housing and other assistance.

No damage estimate was made Monday evening and the cause of the fire remained under investigation.
