Jack Eichel will face his stiffest professional competition yet at the world championships.
Eichel and Team USA will face Russia in their third game of the preliminary round at 10:15 a.m. Monday on NBCSN. Both teams are 2-0.
Eichel, expected to be drafted second overall by the Sabres in June, has no points, five shots and three penalties while skating 16:29 per game. He is set to center the fourth line with left wing Brock Nelson of the New York Islanders and right wing Trevor Lewis of the Los Angeles Kings.
Russia boasts former NHL star Ilya Kovalchuk, St. Louis forward Vladimir Tarasenko, Columbus goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky and Florida defenseman Dmitri Kulikov.
Eichel was featured prominently in our Sabres Mailbag, which ran Sunday.
