It’s not quite the whole enchilada, but it’s another bite of the taco.
A Delaware-based chain of Mexican restaurants that already operates one franchise in Williamsville is opening a second Western New York location in the Southtowns.
The former Titan’s Steakhouse at 4245 McKinley Parkway in Hamburg will become La Tolteca Mexican Restaurant, joining a similar restaurant at 7530 Transit Road, across from the Eastern Hills Mall.
Plans call for the new eatery, located at the corner of Abbott Road, to open in June or July after renovations are complete, said broker Larry Brassel of Brassel Commercial Realty, who handled the deal along with Jim Geiger of McGuire Development Co.
La Tolteca and sister restaurant La Tonalteca are owned by Authentic Mexican Restaurants Group, which operates 11 restaurants under the two names in Delaware, Pennsylvania and New York.
The restaurant operator, My Santa Lucia LLC, signed a new five-year lease with Ming Li’s A&J Ming LLC. Li owns the 2.16-acre site, and also operates Kyoto Japanese Restaurant at 4060 Maple Road. The lease includes an option to buy the property, Brassel said.
The 5,794-square-foot building was formerly a Perkins Restaurant before it was acquired by A&J Ming LLC in December 2012, and operated as Titan’s until last August.
Ironically, the other La Tolteca location was also a former Perkins, Brassel said. Geiger handled the sale and leasing of five former Perkins sites in Buffalo and Rochester after they closed in 2011.
“This will be a great location for La Tolteca’s expansion, bringing made-from-scratch, authentic Mexican food and beverages to the Southtowns,” he said.
