Buffalo Bisons infielder Chris Colabello has been named International League player of the month, the first Herd batter so honored by the league in nearly nine years.
Colabello hit .338 in April and leads the IL with five home runs and 16 RBIs, including the go-ahead run in a three-run fifth on Thursday that led the Herd to a 5-3 win over Norfolk. The last time a Buffalo player earned IL player on the month was when third baseman Andy Marte exploded for 10 home runs to earn the honor in June, 2006.
In addition to being among the IL's top 10 in batting, Colabello is tied for second in total bases (42), fifth in slugging (.592), tied for eighth in runs (12) and ninth in on-base percentage (.427).
On Monday, Colabello picked up his third career IL Batter of the Week award after hitting .467 with 14 hits and 10 RBIs during Buffaloʹs seven‐game road trip through Pawtucket and Lehigh Valley. Colabello was also named IL Player of the Month in June, 2013 as part of his league MVP season with Rochester.
