Parete’s sister faces prison in home invasion case

LOCKPORT – The sister of the late Buffalo Police Officer Patricia A. Parete could be headed for state prison after admitting Thursday in State Supreme Court that she violated the terms of her probation in a Lockport home invasion case.

Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. scheduled sentencing June 11 for Maria A. Parete, 19, of Lockport, who pleaded guilty a year ago to attempted second-degree robbery. She was one of three teenagers who robbed a man in his Lockport apartment on March 29, 2013.

She was placed on probation, but violated its terms by not performing all 240 hours of community service that Kloch ordered and by drinking, breaking curfew, associating with drug users and being ejected from City of Lockport Drug Court. Parete is to be sentenced June 11; the maximum sentence is seven years behind bars.

Patricia Parete, a Lockport native, died in 2013 after being left a quadriplegic when she was shot on duty in Buffalo in 2006. Maria Parete was shot March 14 at Washburn Street and Works Place in Lockport, but her wound was not serious and she remains in Niagara County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
