Main Street in downtown Buffalo could be open to cars as far south as Mohawk Street by September. Construction is ongoing on the latest stage of the “Cars Sharing Main Street” project to restore auto traffic to the thoroughfare.
The sidewalk on the entire east side of Main from Genesee to Mohawk has been poured, and workers were scheduled to start on the west side of the street Thursday, said Steven J. Carmina, a member of the Buffalo Place board.
Underground utility work is in progress, and structural soil will be going in, he said. And the Metro Rail train station, with transparent wall panels, is now finished.
Related work on Genesee Street is going out for bids now, while a contract for Pearl Street has been awarded and will start in the fall.
