Men's tennis coach Lee Nickell has been named the sport's Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year after guiding UB to the program's first league title and securing the accompanying NCAA Tournament berth.
UB rose to the championship as a No. 4 seed, beating No. 1 Northern Illinois and No. 3 Binghamton along the way. Nickell becomes a two-time recipient of the award, having also been honored in 2010.
Additionally, UB senior Damien David and junior Pablo Alvarez were named second-team all-conference selections. It's the fourth time that David, the 2014 MAC Player of the Year, has made either first- or second-team all-conference. He has a 21-17 record at first and second singles while Alvarez has produced a 26-16 mark at first, second and third singles.
UB play at Ohio State on Friday in its first-round NCAA Tournament match.
