Team USA in Group B and Canada in Group A take 2-0 records into today’s final round of preliminary games in the IPC Ice Sledge Hockey Championships Wednesday at HarborCenter.
The Americans (2-0) will face Italy (1-1) at 2 p.m. Canada (2-0) takes on the Czech Republic at 5:30 p.m. Other games on Wednesday’s schedule will have Russia (1-1) facing Germany (0-2) in Group B at 10:30 a.m. and Norway (1-1) against Japan (0-2) in Group A at 9 p.m.
The losing side in the eight games so far have had difficulty scoring. The losers have totaled only three goals combined. Team USA outscored its opponents 13-1 and the Canadians have been dominant, outscoring Japan and Norway, 22-0.
No surprise then that six of the seven leading individual scorers are Canadian. Greg Westlake (6-4-10) and Brad Bowden (3-7-2) of Canada are tied for the scoring lead.
The first American on the list is Lancaster native Adam Page, who is tied with Adam Dixon of Canada at five points, each with two goals and three assists. Page had a pair of goals and two assists in Monday’s 7-0 victory over Germany. Paul Schaus of Buffalo has two points (1-1) for the U.S.
Tuesday was an off day for the tournament. After Wednesday, there will be two games Thursday – the Group A third place team against Group B fourth place at 4:30 p.m. and the Group A fourth-place team vs. Group B third place at 8 p.m.
Semifinal games will be Friday at 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Games to decide fifth and seventh will be Saturday with the medal games on Sunday at 11 a.m. (bronze) and 2:30 p.m. (gold).
