Battery jump-starter recalled

Arkansas-based the Whistler Group has recalled its Jump & Go portable jumpstart and power supply because it poses a fire hazard. The item’s lithium battery can overheat, melt the unit and catch fire. There have been 45 incidents reported, including 18 fires – one of which resulted in $16,000 in property damage.

The device is used to jumpstart vehicles or as a portable charger and 12-volt power supply. The affected units have model numbers starting with WJS-3000.

Made in China, the devices were sold through Hammacher Schlemmer, Radio Shack, Walmart, Amazon.com, Sears.com and Staples.com from May 2014 to October 2014. Customers should stop using the unit and call 1-855-667-9081 for a free replacement.
