U.S. Border Patrol opens its doors for a citizen academy

NIAGARA FALLS – Residents and community leaders who are interested in learning more about what goes on behind the scenes at the U.S. Border Patrol are invited to take part in the Citizen’s Academy, a seven-week program on consecutive Thursdays beginning May 14.

The deadline for applications is Friday. Admission is free and open to all, ages 18 and older, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Classes are held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Niagara Falls Border Patrol Station. Those interested can contact Agent Kevin Radke at 285-6444 or send an email to niboutreach@cbp.dhs.gov.

The classes will explore the history, mission, operations and use of force, along with enforcement of immigration and criminal law.

The academy will end with a graduation ceremony and awarding of certificates.
