Front page April 27, 1915: 'Stench from two city lakes prompts flood of complaints'

Among the local stories on the day's front page:

"Stench from two city lakes prompts flood of complaints"

"Buffalo is maintaining a public nuisance in Delaware park and Forest Lawn cemetery lakes, for the abatement of which steps should be speedily taken.

"Such is the charge made by the Health department, to which the Park department enters a plea of guilty.

"Today inspectors from the Health department are engaged in investigating a storm of complaints which has has swept into Commissioner Fronczak's office. Formal investigation, however, can add nothing to the indictment which residents of that section of the city and visitors to both park and cemetery can draw from their own experiences.

"Both lakes are giving out a stench which is a disgrace to the city.

"At the Health department this morning the NEWS was informed that the trouble, which is no new one, is due primarily to failure to cleanout the lakes, following their pollution from Scajaquada creek and incidentally to the failure of the Park department to raise the park dam."
