Changes to traffic patterns at the Youngmann Highway and Delaware Avenue in the Town of Tonawanda will take effect later this week as a major bridge replacement project gets under way, the state department of transportation announced.
On Thursday, temporary traffic signals are scheduled to be activated on Delaware and new traffic patterns will go into effect at the Youngmann Highway interchange, according to a news release.
On Friday, Youngmann Highway westbound traffic to Delaware Avenue southbound will be directed to exit at Exit 1B. Exit 1A will be closed at about 7 p.m. Also at that time, the Delaware Avenue northbound and southbound ramps to the Youngmann Highway westbound will be closed.
On Saturday, Delaware Avenue southbound traffic will be directed to use new, temporary ramps to access the Youngmann eastbound. In addition, the Youngmann between Colvin Boulevard and the Niagara Thruway will be reduced to two lanes in each direction and the speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph. Also, Youngmann eastbound traffic will begin to utilize temporary crossovers.
The new traffic patterns will remain in effect through October.
