The Buffalo Police Department’s 20th Annual Youth Police Academy has been rescheduled to 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 16 at Buffalo Police Headquarters, 74 Franklin St.
It had been previously scheduled for March but confusion over how to obtain registration applications resulted in a date change to allow for more seventh and eighth grade students in the city to apply.
Applications are available at the principals’ offices at middle schools throughout the city and at community centers or by calling the Buffalo Police Academy at 851-4523.
The academy, which is free and includes lunch, is designed to provide middle school students with the chance to interact with law enforcement and other experts on topics including drug and alcohol prevention, drug court, school and bus safety, gang avoidance and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Each attendee will be issued a community service certificate signed by Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda.
