Spring Book Sale benefits Youngstown Free Library

YOUNGSTOWN – The Friends of the Youngstown Free Library will host a Spring Book Sale on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the Youngstown Village Center gym, 240 Lockport St.

The sale will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday to current, renewing or new members of the Friends’ group. Anyone may join at the door.

The sale is open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. At 1 p.m. Saturday, the “bag sale” begins, where shoppers may fill a bag provided by staff for $3.

All proceeds from the sale benefit the library. Books for sale will include fiction, non-fiction, children’s and adolescent, travel, cooking, gardening, self-help, spiritual, literature and New York Times best-sellers. DVDs and CDs also will be for sale. Items cost between 25 cents and $3.

In addition, the sale will feature a large collection of donated books from the closing of Bob’s Olde Books in Lewiston at great prices.

The Friends is the library’s all-volunteer, nonprofit group of fundraisers. It is always looking for new members. Anyone who becomes a member by 7 p.m. Thursday will be entered into a raffle for 10 $20 gift certificates to Youngstown-area businesses. Winners will be drawn that evening.

“Our members tell us how much they treasure our library in Youngstown,” said Charlotte Viscio Clark, president of the Friends’ board of directors. “During this annual campaign, we are invited to renew our support to our library and our community. We thank everyone who has already responded and hope to see our membership grow again this year.”

The membership campaign, with the slogan “Make a BFF – Become a Friend of the Youngstown Free Library,” hopes to renew interest and participation in the Friends organization.

Membership rates are $5 per person, $10 per family, or $25 per “supporting” member. Forms are available at the library or at

The Friends have about 250 members and is run by a volunteer board of directors. It meets at 7 p.m. every third Wednesday of the month, at the library. For more information about the library, visit or call 745-3555.
