LOUGHRAN, Donna M. MacLeod

LOUGHRAN - Donna M. MacLeod Age 80, formerly of Buffalo, NY, died in the company of her loving family on Tuesday, December 16, 2014. Born in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Lauretta (nee Ryan) MacLeod. Donna was proud of her Scottish heritage and was a descendant of the 1851 exiles from the Isle of Lewis, Scotland who settled in Ripley, Ontario. Donna was a Registered Nurse for 60 years and a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph's Academy, Sisters of Charity Hospital Nursing School, the University of Buffalo and Niagara University. She taught a generation of nurses at Sisters Hospital, and was Associate Chief of Nursing at the VA Medical Centers in Buffalo and Wilmington, DE. Donna was an example of life in motion- sneaking onto city busses at the age of seven in North Buffalo, energizing the Emergency Room at Sisters Hospital, educating hundreds of nurses, protesting furloughs in front of the U.S. Capitol, decorating elaborate Christmas and Hanukah trees, marching in the NYC Tartan Day Parade, and her general refusal to get old. She reminded us always that too much is indeed a good thing. Donna is survived by her son, Sean Casey Loughran (Patricia); daughters, Lauretta Kahn (Jonathan) and Alison Loughran (Paul Kidd); grandchildren, Julian Kahn and Megan, Colleen, and Colin Loughran; and daughter-in-law, Tonya Phillips Loughran. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter T. Loughran, Jr. and her son, Ian Adam Loughran.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 AM on May 9, 2015 at The University of Buffalo-Newman Center, Amherst NY, with a luncheon to follow. The Rev. Msgr. J. Patrick Keleher (Father Pat) will officiate. Friends, family, former coworkers are welcome to attend and celebrate her remarkable life and love for others.
