A Buffalo man tried selling security systems to as many as 11 customers over the past couple months. There was only one problem: he did not work for the security company.
James Boyles, 34, of Genesee Street, was charged with second-degree forgery and scheming to defraud.
Buffalo police said he repeatedly made false statements and representations on behalf of Safe Home and ADT security systems, falsified contracts and maintained he was a representative of the firm, from Feb. 24 through April 6.
He took $99 from a Phyllis Avenue man and did not return to complete work or return the money, police said. Boyles was not currently employed with ADT, and also did the same thing with 10 other victims, police said.
