Front page April 24, 1915: 'Waste islands' inspected; Meldrum to be toastmaster at GOP event

Among the local stories on the day's front page:

"Citizens look to councilmen to kill deal"

"Another inspection of the waste islands opposite the foot of Main street was made this afternoon by a large party of citizens and interested persons, under the auspices of the wharves and harbors committee of the Board of Aldermen. Arrangements for the trip were completed by Chairman Joseph P. Broderick, who also announced that there will be another public hearing on the question next Thursday afternoon."

"300 to attend primary dinner Monday night: H.A. Meldrum to act as toastmaster at event to start fight on self-constituted bosses"

"Everything is in readiness for the dinner to be given Monday evening in German-American hall by the Republican Primary Campaign committee. There is every reason to believe that all of the available places, about 300 in number, will be occupied by Republicans, who are moved by a common purpose, from every part of the country."
