Jagat P. Jain, Ph.D., of Williamsville, a retired accounting professor at Niagara University, died Wednesday in Buffalo under Hospice care following a lengthy illness. He was 77.
Born in India, Mr. Jain received his doctoral degree from Patma University and a master’s degree from Lakehead University in Canada.
He was a retired full-tenured professor of accounting at Niagara University and helped found and lead the Center for International Accounting Education and Research there. During his professional life, Mr. Jain served as president of the Niagara Chapter of the American Association of Management Accountants, a predecessor to the Institute of Management Accountants association.
He was also president of JAINA, an association of the Jain religion and was active with the local Hindu Cultural Society.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Urmila; a son, Sumeet; a daughter, Monisha Gupta; five grandchildren; and five brothers and three sisters in India.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday in the Perna, Dengler, Roberts Funeral Home, 1671 Maple Road, Amherst.
