Artist: Bernard C. Feldman // Work: Restored murals in Chestnut Ridge Park Casino
On Tuesday night, Orchard Park officials, art conservators and public art fans celebrated the restoration of five historic murals in the Chestnut Ridge Park Casino that had been damaged by 65 years of fireplace smoke, dirt buildup and other damage.
The $40,000 project, overseen by art conservator and SUNY Buffalo State graduate Eileen Sullivan of Aurora Art Conservation, has brought new life to the naturalistic murals of artist Bernard C. Feldman (1889-1972), originally painted in 1948. Feldman, whose gold leaf work is visible in City Hall and other downtown buildings, also designed the poster for Buffalo's 1932 centennial celebration:
